.45 ACP with small primers

PreviousPage 2 of 2

Yes, this is a load of crap. SAAMI. BATF, someone needs to be castrated over this. How can this be considered "standard", much less safe???

I am running into more and more of this junk at the range. When I sweep up my brass, some of it (more and more) invariably gets mixed in. It creates a very dangerous (and PIA) situation when loading on my 550.

I have began to sort all the 45 by hand now. Kind of defeats the purpose of a progressive press. I came home from the range yesterday and hand picked out over 40 cases of small primer 45 ACP. NO doubt some will be missed and the press will crash.

I have also started looking at each case before it goes into the shell holder and seating the primer slowly. You can feel if it is the wrong size but you have to go slow.

Will the small primer arm even work with the standard 45 ACP shell plate? I have not even tried it yet.

There are no problems loading small-primed 45ACP cases. YOu just switch to the small primer slide and small magazine tube.

Be aware that we recently did find some Winchester 45ACP commercial brass with small primers AND crimped primer pockets.
