Powder throw on shell plate
Quote from Jimmyhat1978 on June 14, 2023, 8:25 pmI've been getting a lot of powder throw lately when rotating to the next stage, any solutions on this one? I'm not moving fast either, going a pretty slow pace.

Quote from rorkplumbing on June 14, 2023, 8:30 pmI am not sure if this will help; however, I got this idea (link added below) from another forum. I have not put it on yet and was planning to tomorrow. I also just took mine down to the bare press and cleaned and lubed it. I will let you know how this works out.

Quote from Jimmyhat1978 on June 14, 2023, 8:34 pmThanks Jay, if it works for you. I'll definitely get one. I had seen that on youtube but didn't know if it would help with mitigating the over rotation/positioning.

Quote from Fordvg on June 14, 2023, 8:51 pmI was recently having the similar issues and all I did was give the press a good cleaning and a lube. That helped tremendously. I have the roller mentioned above and while it's nice I don't think it really adds much to the smoothness of the machine.
I have had other "upgrades" that supposedly smoothed out the process and found that there really wasn't much added value. Other than the roller bearing, I returned to stock and made sure everything was properly lubed and had good luck.

Quote from Jimmyhat1978 on June 14, 2023, 8:59 pmI saw one video where the. guy. cut one row or half a row. of the spring under the steel ball that sits under the shell plate. I'm slightly reluctant to go that route.

Quote from ARMTGuy on June 14, 2023, 9:09 pmIf the shellplate bolt is a bit loose, this happens. Push down on the edge of the shellplate at station 4. If it feels springy, then snug the shellplate bolt a bit more. You should barely be able to discern any up-or-down movement in the shellplate, and the shellplate should still rotate smoothly by hand.

Thank you I'll get that a try this evening

Quote from LawshrinkMD on June 14, 2023, 10:19 pmI’ve had the same issue in the past and agree with all of the above actually.
1 A good cleaning and lube is the first step.
2 Consider a replacement for the index detent ball to a low mass and reduced pressure spring.
3 Consider a shell plate bushing. I’ve used both the bronze bushing and a needle bearing with similar results for each. With those I don’t see more than a few grains of splash-out over several hundred rounds loaded.
