Primer-Explosion

PreviousPage 3 of 3

We had a Primer exposion that wracked the primer Tube inside the Shild. Bent the Primer support shim and left the Primer Disk with all the Sooth.
Federal small Primers.
We had to buy a New Primer Tube from Sportec Ab for the New Machine that sofare has not produced more than errors and mishaps.
We took the Machine apart and it contains small prices of lose metal from building.
We feal very disapointed sofare. A lot of labor, travling and no reloading sofare.

650 small primer system explosion. New one on the way under warranty. Thanks Dillon! My shorts and fluorescent light were not covered.

I just had an explosion tonight. Reloading 223. Around 500 rounds loaded then BOOM! The primer in the seating area expanded into the primer disc. Then the entire tube exploded as well. Not sure why.

Calling Dillon tomorrow. I need to finish loading rounds for my youth camp this week. Hopefully I can get an overnight replacement.

And, the amazing guys at Dillon are sending me a replacement. The suggestion they suggested to try to prevent this...

1. Check your station 2 locator
2. Clean the area well continually and don't let primer power build up or loose anvils liter the area.
3. Check the primer magazine tube is the proper size
4. Check the primer disc is the proper size
5. Be certain the shim is not loose
6. Federal primers are softer than Remington and CCI (Note I was using winchester) and thus they will have more failures when reloading.
7. If anything sounds off, disassemble and be safe

Lastly, ALWAYS WEAR EAR and EYE protection!

During my first reloading session, I let a little powder build up in the primer cup. The powder granules put small dimples in a few primers as I was seating them in the brass. I was lucky that no primers detonated and it was just a learning experience for me.

Check the primer cup on every down stroke and blow out any powder granules before the shuttle picks up the next primer.
