Who own a 'Square Deal B' here?

Page 1 of 3Next

I shoot 9mm only at this point and have been collecting brass. I have only a ultrasonic cleanercalipersscale as far as equipment so far and would like to find a kit to fill the rest. I have looked at hornady lnl and its about $510, that's a bit over budget for me. Lee pro 1000 is about $200 with shipping, but you have to wonder why you pay over 1/2 the price of the others and what you get in return. Dillon sounds like a quality made press and the Square Deal B is about $380 plus shipping. Do any of you have any regrets or wish you got a different model instead? Are any of the upgrades really needed?

Get the Dillon SDB, you'll never regret it. Spend a little more up front for a lifetime of trouble free reloading.

I started on an old Herter's model C, 40++ years ago, have a Lachmiller, C&H and Lee presses and have been using mostly Dillon's for the last 20+ years. I presently have 3 SDB's, 2 550's and a Super 1050. (I shoot belt fed guns and FA and need a lot of ammo.)

SDB's are designed for pistol calibers and are just about fool proof when set up.
If you are shooting mostly 9mm right now and want to expand  you can get caliber changes for the SDB that are almost endless, 38/357 ~ 45ACP ~ 10mm/40SW. ~ etc. You will be amazed at the amount of ammo produced by a SDB. You will also be amazed at the accuracy of Dillon powder measures, they hold the settings endlessly.

I don't work for the company, I just love the excellence of their products and the best customer service and guarantees in the business.

Like my SDB
Have 3 conversions for it.
Least expensive of the bunch to operate I think.
If you only reload pistol SDB is the way to go.
If you think you might reload rifle in large quantity RL550 is the way to go.
Lee makes good single stage but progressive not so much.
If you get a Lee pro 1000 you will get a Dillon in the future and never look back.

I've got 4 and love them.  Got my first back when they were $129.95

As send before they are great for pistol,  I did get low powder sensor and low primer sensor, think one of them come with machine now.

Check ebay off and on and picked up some conversions plus extra powder measures as time passed.  Nice to just change powder measures and not have to fool with reseting charge bar.

Had a friend that had to send his back for a 550 because his hands were so big and I mean big.  I wear XL gloves and no problem.

I bought the press a few months ago and am very pleased with it.  it was referred to me by a friend.

Customer service bar none.

You do need the caliber conversion kit for each caliber you are going to re-load.   When you order the press it comes with your caliber of choice.  It sounds as if that is  9mm for you?

If you don't plan on loading rifle or neck down cases it is a great press. You definitely want to get the conversion kits for it if you reload more than one cal. I load 45 acp and 9 mm's. I can change over in about 15 minutes with the conversion kits. I can load about 100 rounds in 20 minutes running at a comfortable pace.

I own one and have for about 19 years.  I have several caliber conversions for it.  I figure I've loaded some 100,000 rounds on it over time.  It has been worth every dime of the cost.  About six years ago, the frame cracked.  It just plain cracked.  This was on a 13 year old press mind you.  Dillon rebuilt the press at no cost with a new frame.  I had it set up for .40 SW at that time.  When Dillon rebuilt it, they adjusted it for me so that it took out the Glock bulge in the cases.  Would I buy another one?  Yes.

The only upgrades I have are a primer flip tray, the strong mount, some extra primer pickup tubes, some extra Akro bins and an extra primer system so I can handle either large or small primers.  I keep an eye on the powder level so I have never needed the low powder alarm.  It could be a good idea, though.

I own 2 of them. I am about to buy a 3rd. You will never regret buying a Dillon. They hold there value and if you ever decide to sell it you will get most of your money back out of it. Best progressive loader bar none. Al

Very happy with my SDB, got it about a month ago after a long wait on backorder.  Worth the wait :).  I'm now cranking out 9mm ammo.  I got it with the strong mount which I highly recommend for a more solid install, but depends on how you will set yours up.  I'm currently using a small table, so the mount made it more stable.  Also added the bullet tray which is a nice option.

1- you can wait and shoot up $25.00 boxes for 50 rounds or
check out ebay and pay for the used one than a new one, but save once you reload your own and I think save sooner than waiting.

2- I also purchased a digital scale, digital calipers, bullet puller, 9mm case gauge to check the size, plastic boxes to store the reloads

3- also plan on a place to mount the reloader

4- I have a used Square Deal B for sale of you are interested- email me if you are interested $650 plus shipping. chuck9787@gmail.com
